2 books that might be useful

I found and bought these at Books A Million.

First one is paperback and was in the bargain bin. 394 pages in cluding index, table of contents, and acronyms.

title: 'U.S. Department of Defense Handbook of military Symbols' edited by Col. Peter T. Underwod USMC (ret). Looks like it would be useful for modern to slightly in the future rpgs and maps. List price on the book is US $19,95, but I got it in the bargain bin for $2.30. 8.5 inches x 11 nches.

Second one is a hardback book. $16.95, 318 pages, including one page index, table of contents, info on the original cartographers, besides the maps there are woodcuts of people in sailing ships.

Title: 'Mapping the New World The Cartography of North America 1500 - 1800'. This one is larger thqn the first one.

this one is 10 inches x 13 nches. Maps are hemisphere, continents, islands, colonies like Virginia, New France, New Spain, etc. along with a few monarchs. Some of the maps have nice borders of peope and monsters believed to be in those areas, or as map decorations.
