Forest colours

I've just started with Campaign Cartographer, and having lots of fun, but I'm having a problem with changing colours of the trees/forest. I know I can only change some of them (the ones with the colour box in the top right), but when I do change the colours, they're not the ones I selected. They're all kind of washed out? Is there any way to get a nice deep green?

Because a symbol is using many shades of color, it is impossible to use the single color you are picking directly. Instead, it is applied to a greyscale mask on the symbol. The exact effect of this will depend on the symbol and it's color need, but it will generally mean it won't appear the exact color you picked. In many cases, experimenting with a slighly different hue may get a bettter result in the final color-mixed symbol.

Out of curiosity, would an Adjust Hue/Saturation or RGB Matrix Process effect work on varicolor symbols?

The effects mentioned are sheet effects: they work on the results of rendering a sheet. If your symbols in question are on their own sheet, then those effects would affect everything about the sheet. However, there is no way to apply the effects to just symbols as they are placed.

Those two effects doesn't affect the raster symbols on the sheet though, they maintain their original color as if no effect had been applied, but raster fill is affected.

They should affect the symbols just as the fill is affected. The effects system should render everything onto an image, compare that image to the previous image, and then apply the effects to any pixels that changed. If the symbols are running on a special path, then that's a bug that I need to track down.

Guess you have a bug to track down then

Here is a sample image, the top entities are all on the SYMBOLS sheet, with a RPG MatriX Process effect with the greyscale preset.
The bottom row are copies of the same entities on a separate sheet with no effects.

I am working on stuff for the CC3+ version of the Tome that would be MUCH better if these effects affected the symbols.

Apart from colour in the right hand symbols, I can't see the difference between the no effects and effects on symbols. Mind you, I have no difficulty adding effects (esp drop shadows etc) to my symbols.

Quentin, the apples on the left should be greyscale (if I read Monsen's comments correctly).

I noted that when I added a Dropshadow effect onto the symbols layer, all the shadows were perfect. But the left hand symbols on the top layer did not show any change with RGB matrix effect.

Yea, that's the problem. Most effects works fine, but the color changing ones doesn't seem to work on raster symbols. (They work as a whole map effect, but that that time, they are not really treated as symbols anymore, because it is applied to the rendered image of the complete map)

Yeah, this has been a known issue for a while, though I, personally, only learned about it last year. I was hoping varicolor might be an exception.

So I'm going to guess that all that means there's no way to get a deep green tree?
