I just discovered an interesting article: https://www.simplemost.com/clever-reason-medieval-castle-staircases-always-clockwise/2/

It states that castle designers built circular stairways to ascend in a clockwise manner, in order to restrict the sword swing of attackers (going up) and give the advantage to defenders (coming down).

I never gave any thought to that before, but I guess I'll pay attention to that in my future maps.

So the Devil coming up the stairs is a south paw? Maybe that's why left handed people were considered to be evil?
