Red X

I have cc3 installed on my PC and laptop, when I look at my map on the laptop it is fine, on my PC I get a lot of red "X" where the Icons should be, I have the same stuff installed. Not sure why this is happening. Is there a way to include the Icons used, in the map itself?

  • That means the path to that item is different, so CC3 cannot find it.

Relative the CC3 program or the drive it is on?
  • Relative to the map location on your hard drive, the symbols/bitmap fills are not in the same folder on both machines.

    Hi ss2020,
If you are using CC3 and you have the same add-ons on both machines, and you are using the symbols we provide, it should work the same on both machines, regardless of where it's installed.

CC3 looks for symbols relative to the installation path.

To find out where CC3 is looking for your missing art:
    1. From the Symbols menu, select Symbol Manager
    2. Select any symbol which appears as a Red X
    3. Select Edit... then click two points to open a window
    4. From the Info menu, click List, select the red X image, right click, Do it
    5. You'll get something which looks like this:

PICTR2: color 0 (black) layer 28 (SYMBOL DEFINITION)
line style 0 (Solid) fill style 1 (Solid)
    line width 0.00000 tag # 15105 pen 0.000 mm 2nd color 0
    FileName: #Symbols\Maps\Pär Lindström BW\Mountains\Mountain 02.png
    Pixels: 146 x 116
    Center: 0.00000,0.00000
    Size: 8.70000 x 10.95000
    Angle: 0.00000°
Flags: No outline, Resolution info is valid, One resolution only,
    Alpha mode: Alpha channel

That FileName there is where CC3 is looking for your art. The "#" symbol is your CC3 installation path.
    So on my system that's C:\Program Files (x86)\ProFantasy\CC3\Symbols\Maps\Pär Lindström BW\Mountains\Mountain 02.png

An Adobe-style broken link finder is on our list of things to do, but it's not a high priority.
