WIP: bog with burial

I am working on a battlemap of a blanket or raised bog with a recent burial. But I am having difficulties depicting the vegetation in a way that is accurate and visually interesting/pleasing enough. Any hints would be highly welcome.

Btw: Even though I might reuse it at a later date, the map is not intended for usage in a rpg. It is supposed to the starting point for a design team to develop a small display cabinet diorama on bog bodies.

There's a couple of nice textures in the Vintyri Project Fills & Textures v4 set you might find useful as
background, you can get them from http://www.vintyri.org

I'm thinking particularly of the two "moss" textures in the overland section.

Thanks for the tipp. Experimented a while with those textures and added a group of trees in the lower left corner. Here is the result:

You might want to try a bit of blur on the skeleton. I'm assuming it's underwater. If so, I think the contours are a bit too sharp.

You are absolutely right, the skeleton (I could not find a classical bog body) is supposed to be underwater and therefore appears too sharp. Tried to improve it:

Thanks for the swampddead pngs, but both individuals look like they died running away and not like a more or less intentional burial. Showing bones instead of a "classical" bog body is an acceptable flaw, especially since it depends on the chemical milieu within the bog wether the soft tissue, the bones or a combination of both remain.

Btw: Bog bodies make interesting mummies / zombies due to their (potential) lack of bones. Had them "crawl" through the crack under a door once...

I really don't know what kind of monster a bog body is, but based on what you've written, this modification of a downed zombie by Digger moght be an alternative. Then again, I might be whistling in the wind, but I thought I'd give it a shot. With the bones gone, this one could get under a door, I think. It's lightly blurred and translucent, which should help with the underwater effect.

A bog body is the result of natural mummification of a corpse due to the special chemical milieu in a bog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bog_body / http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moorleiche), like the Tollund man.
So, monsterwise it is a certain type of mummy.

Some bog burials in England, and Denmark, still have hair and clothes. Their body tattoos also show in some cases.
