Almeria Map: Take 2 (Top Down)

So, I've been working on what I believe will be the complete version of a world map for a fantasy world I'm working on. I'm planning to map this top down, which means that I'm starting with just plotting the land masses of the whole planet and labeling them and the oceans and then I'm going to begin mapping the land, then regions, then cities.

I've attached a copy of the general world map. I'm going to be seeking any advice I can get as I work on this.

Please let me know if you think that there is anything you think I might do to make this look better.

It' a LOT prettier than the old one

Coastlines look nice -- they appear pretty rugged. If there is somewhere that you want more beaches and gentle slopes, you might smooth out those sections a little.

I'm also looking forward to the update.

sdavies, keep in mind that this is a world sized map, so the scale is very large (the flat areas there are on the map range several dozen 'miles'), it's just hard to tell because this is as zoomed out as the map is going to be.

In order to get a better idea where and how the mountains formed on these land masses, I've also mapped out general tectonics for the world, which you can see in the attached image. Bear in mind that these wouldn't be exact (tectonic plates aren't so rigidly angled), but more a general idea to give a guide for mountains, and how the land masses (and the archipelago) formed. (Also, the massive one that covers the large ocean would actually be 2-3 plates, but since I don't have plans to ever use the map for an ocean-based story, I just drew the borders that mattered to me.

This would also give a basis for some locations of natural earthquakes, etc.

Now to begin working on more specific maps...

Okay, so I've done a bit of work on the large continent. It's obviously far from complete, but it's got some of the major features. Please let me know what you think so far.

I cant see the details of your forests... You could try to upload a larger version on a public folder on DropBox and put the link here. I loved your coasts! and the distribution of the islands around it. Your rivers are well placed but in my view they need more "movement" Try to draw larger curves and not +- straith lines. And would rotate some islands on the north west corner and maydbe resize one or two.
