Smaller maps into larger maps or larger maps into smaller maps

Hi there.
I was planning to do a series of smaller maps then join them all together on a larger map but I'm having a bit of trouble working out how to do it.
Is it possible?
Or do I need to do a larger map then "chop it up" into smaller maps to do more detail?
My reason for doing this is that I do not need to create a complete world at once but would like to put them all together eventually.
Any help/guidance would be appreciated.
Cheers

  • I am relativelt new to CC3, but from what I understand, the easiest part would be to Chop up a bigger map...

Actually it's easier to paste maps together than cut one apart. Pasting just requires that: Open the first map, copy and select everything. Then open the second map and paste the first one in where you want it.

I do that when I'm stating a new area map to ensure that the features line up across map boundaries. You can see an example (this is near the north pole so I had to rotate when I pasted):

  • I've tried the copy and paste thing but keep getting told that I have nothing on my clipboard.
Anyway, found a recent question from someone else and one suggestion from Monson was to go through the "Draw" drop down menu and selecting "Insert File" which worked (and very easily) however I do have one problem with this, I can't get rid of the "picture frame" from the original map.
    Any ideas on this one?
Apologies if these are really basic problems...
  • Okay, so, I've worked out how to get rid of the border, just need to work out how to get rid of the black line now...

It is likely part of the border. Go into layers dialog, select map border layer. Click on hide all and freeze all. Click okay.

Only that black line should still be showing, delete it.

If it isn't there, you will have to show one layer at a time until it reappears, then thaw that layer, then delete it.

I am movnig from Movable Type blog to Textpattern, but my tutorials are still there:

As you can see, I made my own templates. To make large areas, such as Mountains of Death on my surface maps, I have a template that is 6x6 areas. Each area is 185 miles wide by 234 miles tall. it is the scale I used back around 1980 when I was making overland maps with 5mm hexagon paper. These templates are also available on my web site.
  • Thanks JimP, I'll have a look at that tonight and let you know how I get on.
