CC3 - Crashing When Selecting From Symbol Library

CC3 crashes every time I try to select something from any of the symbol library. Has anyone had this problem? I've installed the latest patch. I've read the information about running on Vista which doesn't help. Here's my system info:

Vista 64 w/service pack 2
Core i7 965 w/10 Gigs Ram
Dual 280 gtx vid cards
OS & other drivers updated

    A temp workaround for you might be...

    Open map, change to symbol catalog you want. Hit save map. Close the map, then reopen it. Symbol may place fine now.

    I have not found the root cause (yet) but many of my crashes seem to have something to do with the system knowing where and what type of file its working on. so opening and closing a map "fixes" something most of the time.
