Cutting through a wall with Color Key?

I am making a map which is a mountainous pass. Most of the map is cave wall. So I have the path coming from the southwest going north to an open area. Then there should be a path going to the northeast. So I used color key to cut out an area but instead of showing me what is below it is showing me a black area. Am I doing this right? What should I be doing

Could you post the actual map? It is very difficult to see what could go wrong from an image.

Move the Color Key effect up so it is the first effect on the sheet. Some of the other effects on the sheet messes up the working of the color key if they are processed first.

Suggestion then, maybe update the manual at some point under the color key section to mention that
